Job Description:
Summary/Objective
The Assistant Registrar supports the Museum Registrar in the coordination, organization, and stewardship of all artwork loaned, borrowed, exhibited, and donated to the Museum. This position is primarily responsible for overseeing logistics associated with the Museum's robust changing exhibition program.
Essential Functions
- Exhibition Planning: Act as Exhibition Coordinator and
primary contact for exhibition partners and work with museum staff
for all exhibition planning needs including preparation of Letter
of Intent packages, checklists, didactic materials, and
installation schedules. Coordinate exhibition planning and
logistics in conjunction with Director/Curator, Museum Registrar,
Preparator and Associate Director. Assist the Museum Registrar in
drafting loan agreements and organizing packing and shipping
arrangements for changing exhibitions. Prepare exhibition condition
reports of loan objects under the supervision of the Museum
Registrar quickly and accurately. Work with the Museum Registrar
and Preparator to oversee unpacking and repacking of art. Ensure
that art is returned to the Lender in a timely manner and in good
condition.
- Collections Management: Assist the Museum Registrar in
the maintenance of the collection database including improving
electronic cataloguing. Capture reference images of collection
objects for use in the database. Follow establish file naming
conventions in the digitization of collection documentation for
linking to the database. Data entry and cleanup projects as
assigned.
- Acquisitions and Loans: Assist the Museum Registrar with
tracking the status of gift documentation and arranging for
shipping of new acquisitions. Assist the Museum Registrar in
documenting new acquisitions in TMS. Assist the Museum Registrar in
inventorying and managing objects on Campus Loan.
- Other duties as assigned by the Museum Registrar.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an arts-related field.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Full-time staff position.
- Non-exempt.
- 35 hours/week.
- $24.04 - $29 per hour, to commensurate with experience.
- The worker may be required to travel.
- Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organization skills and ability to multitask.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment and
communicate effectively.
- Ability to draft correspondence and other written materials in
a professional manner using correct format, grammar and
spelling.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and excellent computer
literacy skills required.
- Proficiency with relational database systems.
