Minimal Qualifications:

Work Hours

Normally scheduled Monday through Friday; however, may be required to work other shifts to include evenings and/or weekends. Schedule subject to change based upon department needs.

Compensation
The annual salary range is $51,191- $54,262. A competitive benefit package is included.

Class Summary

This is the first level in the Academic Advising series. Incumbents assist students with academic programs which include enrollment processes, course offerings, fees, course selection, test scores, financial aid eligibility and options, and other resources that will help students meet their educational and occupational needs. Major duties and responsibilities include: providing general advising for walk-in and managing caseloads of students with academic life coaching; providing information to current and prospective students regarding academic programs, requirements, and application process; reviewing student documents for eligibility and compliance with policies and procedures; exploring resources and options; guiding selection of academic courses; reviewing academic progress; coordinating advisement groups or related activities; determining SAP ; and sharing program information from 4-year schools.

Typical Essential Duties
  • Proactively advise students by creating a personalized education plan aligned with their career goal and a plan to fund their education, utilizing various academic advising and funding strategies.
  • Assist students in funding their education, by guiding them through the steps for financial aid and scholarships, explaining payment plan options, and helping identify alternative funding sources.
  • Develops and maintains relationships by establishing rapport and trust, educating on MCC programs and services, guiding on overcoming obstacles and referring to appropriate services.
  • Assist students with the process of transfer and promote transfer opportunities to MCC students.
  • Responsible for monitoring student academic progress, student enrollment, and other data.
  • Responsible for responding to early alerts with outreach to struggling students connecting them to academic and non-academic support resources.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community agencies to assist students in achieving personal, career and academic goals.
  • Maintain thorough understanding of MCC programs, policies, procedures and systems to effectively and accurately guide students.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, state and institutional policies and regulations pertaining to Federal Title IV, scholarships, tuition assistance, payment plans, and billing systems.
  • Coordinates with staff, departments, and agencies, to communicate information, provide recommendations, represent the College, and facilitate departmental operations.
  • Performs administrative tasks including providing general information via phone, email, or in person; addressing concerns and complaints; scheduling caseload appointments; greeting visitors; and directing calls.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of academic program requirements, financial aid and tuition assistance programs;
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes;
  • Knowledge of workshop and program principles and operations;

  • Knowledge of basic intervention strategies for students in crisis

Physical Requirements

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
