Title: First Cook Supervisor (FT, FY)

Position Purpose:

Bates Dining, Conferences, and Campus Events provides/oversees services for a self-operated student dining program, campus catering, retail dining operations, vending, summer programs, one day programs, major campus events, campus space scheduling and non-student short term housing. The first cook supervisor's position oversees front line culinary operations for student dining and catering events. This is a hands-on supervisory position which requires an individual with the skills to understand the global needs of the operation, and the ability to organize their team's work with an eye to efficiency, timeliness, and production of high quality products.

This position calls for someone with outstanding customer service skills who can safely, efficiently, and consistently produce and present food in a high-volume setting, and who possesses the demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with individuals and groups with varying backgrounds, perspectives, education, and skills. Ability to work as part of a dynamic management team that embraces communication and inclusiveness is essential to the candidates’ success. Exemplary organizational, time management, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills are a must as well as a demonstrated ability to teach others.

Job Duties:
  • Prepare student meals.
  • Prepare catered events.
  • Oversee the daily running of the kitchen.
  • Organize and outline daily/weekly staff assignments.
  • Review recipes with staff to insure compliance.
  • Hold pre-shift meeting updating staff on information pertinent to the meal at hand and share operational updates.
  • In the event of unexpected staff absences, prepare a strategy to ensure food is fresh and available at all times.
  • Ensure proper production records are maintained.
  • Ensure proper sanitation standards are maintained.
  • Display a pleasant demeanor and helpful attitude.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education
  • Culinary degree or equivalent combination of education and experience desired.
  • Serve Safe certification.
Experience
  • Minimum of four years’ experience in an institutional or high-volume full-service food operation required with a demonstrated forward professional progression.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume collegiate setting desired.
Skills and Knowledge

  • Exemplary organizational and time management skills are a must.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Understand and thrives in a high-volume food service environment.
