Position Summary:

The Production Coordinator is responsible for overseeing, in a timely fashion, the typesetting and manufacturing of each issue of all journals published by the UW Press. Currently this is 36 issues per year spread across a dozen titles. Duties include setting and adhering to production schedules; ensuring an ongoing workflow of manuscripts and proofs among editors, copyeditors, compositors, printers, hosting providers, indexers, and metadata managers; performing quality assurance on proofs and online content; working with purchasing and vendors to comply with university regulations for bidding and contracting with vendors; maintaining records for reporting; integrating new journal acquisitions into the workflow as needed; and inventory management and archiving.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

A bachelors degree is required

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

1yr of comparable experience
Desired Project Management experience.
Desired knowledge of scholarly journal publishing.
Desired experience with journal production and design, and working with print and electronic publication vendors.
Desired familiarity with basic copyright law, copyediting, image editing, and online editorial workflow managers.
Strongly preferred experience with Adobe Acrobat, desired experience with design and production software, including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Desired experience with using databases.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Proven track record of effectively prioritizing multiple tasks, accomplishing all in an accurate and timely manner.
