Position Announcement
The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Utah Valley University invite qualified individuals to apply for tenure-track positions as an assistant, associate, or full professor (2 Master of Social Work and 1 Bachelor of Social Work positions) starting August 2025. These positions are an exciting opportunity to play an essential role in strengthening UVU's social work programs. Both the BSW and MSW programs are fully accredited by CSWE.
UVU offers extensive resources and workshops to expand and enhance teaching abilities. The successful candidate is expected to utilize pedagogical methods that emphasize student engagement, identify measurable course objectives and evaluate learning by means of written assignments, oral or practice tests, and/or examinations. They will participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the social work programs, the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Utah Valley University, and the collective interest of its staff and student body. Commitment to collegiality and student success is important to the social work faculty.
UVU's social work programs seek to provide an atmosphere of safety and respect. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to the NASW Code of Ethics and CSWE competency-based standards in teaching, scholarship, service, and collegiality.
Summary of Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will collaborate with social work faculty in developing and establishing curriculum, activities, processes, resources, and policies that support student development of social work knowledge, skills, and values.
- The appointee's workload expectations will be teaching (80%), research (10%), and institutional service (10%).
- The position carries a teaching load of 24 credit hours or equivalent per academic year, typically 12 credits per semester (4/4).
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- In addition to having a doctoral degree in social work or related discipline, applicants for all professorial ranks are required to have graduated with a master's degree in social work from a CSE accredited program and a minimum of 2 years post-MSW professional practice experience. If the MSW was earned from an international institution, the degree must be evaluated and approved by CSWE. Please note that ABD candidates will be considered, however, the doctoral degree must be conferred by the time of appointment.
- Additionally, minimum qualifications include evidence of teaching or training/mentoring experience and completion of scholarly work (e.g. dissertation, peer-reviewed publication, academic/professional presentation) within the past five years.
- If hired at the associate or full professor rank, the candidate must have evidence of recent scholarly work and continued agenda (publications, conference presentations, etc.). The candidate must show commitment to the mission, purpose, and values of the social work profession.
Preferred Qualifications
- It is preferred that applicants have experience teaching in a social work program and the ability to apply engaged learning pedagogies, strategies, and techniques.
- Preferred applicants will demonstrate knowledge of CSWE standards and competencies and a commitment to social work mission, purpose, and values.
- Leadership experience in a growing program or agency will also be looked at favorably.
- Commitment to and skill in working with vulnerable and marginalized populations, knowledge about social work practice in non-profit and public agencies, experience with CSWE accreditation standards and policies, teaching across multiple subject areas, and experience/skills using technology in teaching will all be viewed as preferred qualifications during this faculty search.
