Job Details

The University of Northern Iowa's Department of History seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Public History position, starting in August 2025. The successful candidate will contribute to UNI’s growing undergraduate programs in public history and museum studies as well as collaborate with community and public history stakeholders within and beyond the university. This position will teach and develop courses in the Department of History as assigned, based on departmental needs in public and US history, including the theory and practice of public history and introductory US survey courses.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in History or Public History by August 1, 2025, required. All areas of research specialization in US history that do not duplicate current faculty strengths are welcome. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching; an active research agenda; effective communication skills; and graduate training in public history.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience in public history; demonstrated experience in public and/or digital history in one or more of the following settings: museums; historical societies; archives; historical/cultural agencies; and/or other applied settings preferred.
