The Department of Facilities Services and Campus Operations has an outstanding opportunity for a Painter (NE S WFSE Trades)to join their team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare classrooms, offices, student housing, and common spaces for painting
  • Complete repairs to surfaces to prepare them for painting. Read blueprints/instructions and examine surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary.
  • Using a variety of tools, apply primers, sealers, stains, and paint to campus walls, surfaces, floors, etc.
  • Apply paint to a variety of surfaces, including repainting campus doors, door jambs, and railings.
  • Prepare and finish or refinish woodwork and cabinets.
  • Move furniture and place protective drop cloths; tape baseboards, glass, and other surfaces when needed.
  • Coordinate painting schedules with the Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance & Construction Coordinator.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition. May be asked to operate and perform minor maintenance on department equipment, including sandblasters, striping machines, airless and conventional paint sprayers, etc. Manage the department’s paint inventory. Adhere to all safety rules and practices for disposing of old paint.
  • Tape and flush smooth wall sheetrock joints, apply texture material to walls and ceilings and install vinyl and paper wall coverings.
  • Install, work from, and remove scaffolding, stages, planks, ladders, jacks, spider staging and other work platforms as needed.
  • Assemble, install, and design mounting systems for hangings, shelving, filing systems and mailing systems.
  • Develop preliminary cost estimates for installations, repairs, and remodels.
  • May operate ladder and boom trucks and forklift.
  • May refinish or seal floors.
  • May direct helpers as required.
  • In support of Facilities Services staff, may assist other classifications in performance of their assignments which may include construction and demolition activities, building and grounds maintenance which may include unclogging toilets and urinals, perform / assist in staff moves or even shoveling snow off sidewalks and roads.
  • Perform related duties as required.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a painter; OR full journey status as a painter in a union; OR four years of applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis. May require valid State of Washington driver's license.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Adhere to safety rules, regulations, and precautions. May be required to be test fitted and wear all appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment.
  • Ability to work with a diverse constituency.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This position is designated as essential function so incumbent may be required to remain on duty beyond normal shift and/or be available on a 24-hour basis to report for duty without advance notice due to emergencies or staffing shortages. This position will be required to work after hours to facilitate necessary painting without interruption.
