Job Description
SUMMARY :
Reporting to the Director of Student Conduct, the Assistant Director of Student Conduct helps to facilitate the implementation of the student conduct process. The Assistant Director assists the Director in managing incidents that occur on and off campus and works collaboratively with University Police and municipal law enforcement. The Assistant Director may act as a proxy for the Director during instances where the Director cannot be present.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Assist the Director in implementing a community-focused,
learning-centered and procedurally sound student conduct process,
which includes the University’s focus on student belonging, social
justice, diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Process incoming cases, add charges based on the content of the
report and the Code of Conduct, and assign cases as
appropriate.
- Manage and coordinate conduct hearing materials including
evidence. Present cases to hearing panels and serve as an appeal
officer for cases adjudicated by hearing officers.
- Perform investigations of complaints and evaluate alleged
violations, including interviewing involved parties, analyzing case
materials and writing investigative reports.
- Adjudicate cases occurring in residence halls and across
campus.
- Conduct regular audits of open cases and follow up with hearing
officers to ensure that cases are closed within the established
University timeline.
- Complete conduct checks for various university and external
partners alongside the Director.
- Assist in the development of training materials and standard
operating procedures for hearing officers.
- Assist in the recruitment, training, and supervision of
volunteer advisors and the hearing board panel members composed of
faculty, staff and students from the broader campus
community.
- Remain current on research, trends, best practices and legal
issues pertinent to student behavior, student conduct and
sanctioning.
- Assist in the maintenance, archiving and destruction of
confidential student files including administration of the software
database, records of students, holds and transcript
notations.
- Compile relevant conduct reports and statistics.
- Assist in the management of the Student Conduct email
account.
- Lead proactive outreach efforts to the campus community,
including via social media.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Management retains the right to change or add job duties at any
time.
REQUIRED :
- Master’s Degree from an accredited university in Student
Personnel, Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or a
related field.
- Minimum three (3) years of professional work experience in an
institution of higher education.
- Prior crisis response experience with adolescents or college
students.
- Understanding of the unique needs of contemporary college
students.
- Occasional weekend or evening hour availability.
PREFERRED :
- Prior experience working in student conduct or related
experience in conflict resolution.
- Experience with Symplicity (Advocate) software.
