A master's degree is becoming the required academic level for mid-level and even some entry level positions in the field.

- The Doctor of Education degree is the terminal research degree in Educational Leadership. The Ph.D. in International Educational Leadership focuses on education both as an instrument of international development and as a means of promoting cross-cultural understanding.
- The Principal Leadership Certificate Program is designed for educators who hold a Master’s Degree in an education related field and seek an administrative position in a school district. This allows the student to acquire a Montana Principal License without having a second Master’s Degree.
- The Superintendent Leadership Certificate Program is designed for students who already hold a Principal license and are seeking an additional endorsement for Superintendent.
The Department of Educational Leadership partners with school districts across the state in seeking the best leadership possible for the youth of Montana. In the process, professors work with interns and collaborate with leaders in numerous research and professional development activities.
