Position Overview
Position Summary
Winston-Salem State University ( WSSU ) is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to join our University College as the Director of Quality Assurance and Assessment. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to shape the future of academic success and support for our diverse student body.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning and Collaboration:
- Assist in developing the vision, mission, and strategic direction for University College.
- Promote equity, diversity, and inclusion across all reporting units.
- Collaborate with unit heads to develop cross-unit synergies, funding opportunities, and new programs and initiatives.
- Work with deans, chairs, faculty, staff, and students to develop best practices that facilitate holistic student success.
- Represent the University and the Quality Assurance and Assessment unit on campus and with professional organizations and associations.
- Participate in special projects and campus committees as assigned.
- Data Utilization and Reporting:
- Work with Institutional Research and Assessment, the System Office, and other units to collect, assess, and use data effectively.
- Provide regular reports for assessment and planning purposes.
- Produce and disseminate an annual report to share progress and outcomes with the University community and beyond.
- Develop and implement a tracking and assessment system for student use of support services.
- Performance Monitoring and Program Guidance:
- Align initiatives with the Quality Assurance and Assessment unit to ensure progress toward academic performance metrics.
- Utilize data analytics to provide effective student support service opportunities.
- Oversee the testing center coordinator and ensure consistent and effective data reporting.
- Use data from testing and assessments to guide academic support programming.
- Communication and Outreach:
- Develop and oversee a bold and effective communications strategy for the Quality Assurance and Assessment unit.
- Collaborate with data management constituencies to provide student usage data for success tracking.

Department Required Skills
A minimum of a master’s degree in higher education administration, college student development, curriculum and instruction, from an accredited institution, with a demonstrated track record in academic support and assessment services.
- Evidence of five or more years of impactful leadership in student success or undergraduate education administration.
- At least 5 years of progressive experience applying knowledge of general assessment and evaluation principles at a four-year institution of higher education.
- At least five years’ experience developing, interpreting, and assessing programmatic outcomes for continuous improvement.
- Effective leadership, communication, and management skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse members of the University, including administration, faculty, and students
- Knowledge of academic advising and academic support principles, practices, techniques, and theories.
- Knowledge of effective practices in academic support services.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws relating to the development of student academic support programs at the community college level.
- Knowledge of leadership and management principles and techniques
- Knowledge of accounting, budgeting and fiscal reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to consult with administrators, faculty, and staff to strategize how to improve business, instructional, or support service operation based upon data analytics.
- Demonstrated ability to use appropriate technology for data tracking and report presenting.
- Ability to communicate a vision and conceptual framework to multiple audiences.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative internal and external relationships with broad constituencies.
- Ability to implement innovation in education support processes.
- Ability to exercise group leadership skills, which emphasize collaboration, consensus building, conflict resolution, and problem solving.
- Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to details.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a high level of professional integrity.
