Job Description:
The Department of Physics & Astronomy at Weber State University invites applications for a tenure-track position starting Fall 2025. We seek a broadly trained candidate with a passion for teaching physics. Area of research expertise should be experimental physics, with opportunities suitable to engage undergraduate students. The successful candidate will support the department’s Applied Physics program, including instruction and curriculum development for upper division labs.
Job Duties:
This position will be filled at the Assistant Professor level. Responsibilities include:
- Teaching foundational physics courses and courses for physics majors as department needs require. The typical teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester, including lower and upper division classes and labs.
- Establish an active and sustained research program that involves mentorship of undergraduates. Please note that the Department of Physics & Astronomy does not have or support graduate students.
- Service to the department, university, and community.

- A Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field, with applicable research experience. Candidates who expect to complete a Ph.D. by the beginning of the Fall 2025 semester will also be considered.

The Department of Physics & Astronomy has approximately 75 physics undergraduate majors. The department has four teaching labs, two lab prep areas, and several modern research laboratories. Students in physics study in a variety of specialized tracks, including Applied Physics, and many proceed into local industry or graduate programs. Most students participate in undergraduate research.
The College of Science is housed in the Tracy Hall Science Center, a state-of-the-art facility that opened in Fall 2016. The college includes seven departments and the interdisciplinary Environmental Science program. Across campus, there is an emphasis on undergraduate research, sustainability, community-engaged learning, and student success, and the College of Science is a leader in these areas.

It also provides a seamless transit option from Ogden to the Salt Lake International airport.
