Job Description:
The Manufacturing & Systems Engineering (M&SE) Department in the College of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology (EAST) at Weber State University is accepting applications for a full-time Faculty position in the Manufacturing Systems Engineering program starting July 1, 2025. The M&SE department comprises several programs, including Manufacturing Systems Engineering, which is EAC ABET accredited and Manufacturing Engineering Technology, which is ETAC ABET accredited. The applicant will be required to teach in both programs.
This position will involve teaching a variety of courses in manufacturing systems engineering and manufacturing engineering technology, developing laboratories associated with these courses, assisting the students in the manufacturing labs, and engaging in appropriate scholarly, service and outreach activities. Courses may include manufacturing systems engineering, product design and senior projects. The focus of this position is to teach courses in, but not limited to, Introduction to Manufacturing Systems, Production Systems Modeling and Analysis, Facility Design and Material Handing, Engineering Economics. The successful candidate will need to be flexible and able to work effectively with students, faculty and staff. Applicants must be able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
Job Duties:
Required courses to be taught are Production Systems Modeling and Analysis including design and analysis of production systems. Fixed, flexible, and programmable automation (including PLCs). Modelling and simulation of alternative production systems in conjunction with the systems-design process. Facility Design and Material Handling to include planning and design of manufacturing facilities, product analysis, manufacturing processes and equipment selection, and schedule design. Engineering Economics and Cost analysis. Other assigned upper and lower division courses in manufacturing and systems engineering including Product Design and Development, Organizational System, Requirement Engineering, Overview of Systems Engineering Processes, Manufacturing (Industrial) Systems I & II and Senior Projects.
Required Qualifications:
For a tenure-track appointment, applicants must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline, plus at least 3 years of related industry experience.
For a non-tenure-track appointment, applicants must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline, plus at least 3 years of related industry experience.
If hired in a non-tenure track role, transitioning to tenure track will require approval of the Dean and Department Chair based on sufficient evidence of academic qualifications. Instructor positions are temporary appointments renewable by separate contract at the sole discretion of the university.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants with additional years of related industry experience, a PhD in Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline, and/or university-level teaching experience.
