About the Job
Application Deadline Date: We will start reviewing applications on a rolling basis beginning Monday, December 2, 2024. To ensure full consideration, we encourage all interested candidates to submit their materials by this date.
The Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and Gender Health (ISGH) at the University of Minnesota Medical School is inviting applications for three (3) postdoctoral fellowships to join a vibrant team of faculty and postdoctoral fellows for a two-year program beginning Fall 2025. We offer opportunities for either a clinical/research fellowship or a clinical fellowship in our three areas of clinical care: relationship and sex therapy, compulsive sexual behavior, and transgender health (both child/adolescent and adult). Candidates should clearly specify their preference for type (clinical/research or clinical) and area (relationship and sex therapy, compulsive sexual behavior, and child/adolescent and/or adult transgender health) of fellowship in their application or indicate if they are open to both configurations. We cater the fellowship to the fellow’s interest for skill development, so fellows who have an interest in more than one area of clinical care may have opportunities for engagement across care.
ISGH promotes the sexual health of Minnesota, the nation, and the world through preeminence in research, education, clinical service, and advocacy. These positions will begin on September 2, 2025, though may be flexible for the successful applicant(s). Applicants must have completed their PhD or PsyD prior to starting in this fellowship program. The fellowship includes a competitive salary, excellent benefits, and a professional travel stipend.
Duties/Responsibilities:
The Fellow will provide individual, family, couples, and group psychotherapy for a wide range of sexual issues with a primary focus in a specified area, depending on the fellowship. The clinical/research fellowships are designed to support a balanced mix of clinical and research training in the specified area, with broader experience in overall sexual and gender health care. The clinical fellowships are designed to focus on clinical skill development.
Fellows in the clinical/research positions will have time devoted to completing research projects under faculty supervision, with the goal of presenting results at scientific conferences and preparing articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals. The fellow will have the opportunity to develop the capacity to write grant applications to support their scholarly work. Fellows in the clinical positions and the remaining time for fellows in the clinical/research positions is allocated to direct patient care, supervision, and didactics. Additionally, all fellows have opportunities to engage in teaching through our educational programming.
The M Health Fairview Sexual and Gender Health Clinic serves a diverse group of patients (over 18,000 patient visits a year), including children, adolescents, disabled individuals, other minority groups, and clients with chronic medical or mental health problems. The training will help the fellow develop their skills in addressing sexual and gender issues in any clinical setting. In addition to sex and gender-related therapy, treatment addresses a wide variety of psychiatric disorders. This kind of diversity makes for an exciting and stimulating fellowship!
