Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following position: Financial Aid & Scholarships Assistant in the Department of Financial Aid & Scholarships.
The Financial Aid and Scholarships Assistant provides support to Client Services and other Units. This position will be an initial point of contact for counseling for students, family members, and prospective students on general financial aid options, communicating with students regarding eligibility of financial aid awards, and managing inbound/outbound communication to ensure timely processing.

Financial Aid Specialist (AD80/61121958/ PCLS202400380), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Band: 04. Salary range: $32,686.00 (minimum) - $46,578.00 (midpoint). Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be available to work evenings or weekends as required to attend recruitment/enrollment events. Extended hours may be required during peak season at management discretion. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Serves as initial point of contact for students, family members, and prospective students contacting Financial Aid and Scholarships through phone, email, text and /or office visits. Provides entry-level counseling regarding financial aid eligibility, including opportunities for federal, state and institutional aid. Triages inbound communication to determine if, and when a financial aid counselor is needed.
Assists with overall department operations. Supports the efficient management and smooth operation of Client Services. Assists Financial Aid and Scholarships leadership with various projects, including reviewing documents/reports, completing annual reports, communications, etc. Assists with overall scheduling and staffing for events, orientation sessions, and on/off campus events including outreach and workshops.
Assists with data projects, organization of outreach activities, and submission of financial aid forms, as needed. Works with unit leadership to organize and complete special projects related to outreach and student financial aid file completion.
Monitors various communication channels and responds to questions, comments and messages accurately, promptly, and professionally. Assists with resolving inquiries and directing them to the appropriate department when necessary. Refers complex issues to counselor or management team.
Assists with various clerical activities, including filing, data entry, mail distribution, document auditing, processing of electronic documents, website audits, assisting financial aid staff, etc.
Qualifications
- Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training and experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in financial aid, admissions, student recruitment, student services and/or student life in a college or university setting preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Sensitivity to the needs of all prospective students and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other university constituents is expected. Strong organizational skills; ability to relate well with students and family members and work in team and independent environments; excellent written and interpersonal communication skills; strong computer skills in social media platforms, MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint; ability to read and effectively interpret policy and regulations; ability to understand priorities and meet project deadlines; ability to maintain professionalism and positive attitude in fast-paced environment; ability to cooperate with other departments; adaptability; outstanding oral and written communication skills.
