Position Title: Technical Instructor (Carpentry)
Department: WIT-KJCC - Corrections
Campus Location: Washburn Tech

Position Summary: Washburn Institute of Technology seeks applications for a Technical Instructor, Carpentry Technology to begin as soon as possible for the current session. This is an 11-month, benefit-eligible position in the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex.

Essential Functions:
• Develop a curriculum according to course competencies on each course syllabus.
• Prepare for and attend all class meetings.
• Develop assignments for the classroom and the lab.
• Enforce policies for safety and use of personal protective equipment for all individuals in the lab environment.
• Maintain student records for the program (i.e. Certification testing and the assessment plan).
• Coordinate or simulate internship opportunities within the carpentry program.
• Evaluate student work, provide feedback to students, administer tests, and assign grades.
• Share (as appropriate) student information with proper staff and departments.
• Use the university’s learning management system to track grades as required.
• Participate actively in departmental/program advisory board meetings.
• Foster a positive relationship with industry representatives and the community.
• Act in a manner that promotes collegial relationships and shows respect for students, staff, and colleagues.
• Maintain and/or advances training in industry-recognized certifications.
• Stay abreast of innovations and developments in the professional field.
• Adhere to university policies.
• Participate in required KDOC trainings.
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
• Two years of documented experience (4000 hours) as a carpenter or related position.
• Industry-recognized carpentry certification or licensure.
• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• The selected candidate will demonstrate a commitment to pursuing teaching excellence at Washburn University, including a dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from all backgrounds.
• Must pass KDOC Background Check and Drug Test.
Official transcript(s) due at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
• A degree in discipline.
• Teaching experience at the elementary/secondary or post-secondary level.
Full time Exempt Mon-Fri
