Job Details
The Associate Director plays a major role in the Undergraduate Research and Enrichment
Programs’ (UREP) fellowships advising work. Reporting to the director of UREP, the associate director will lead innovative outreach efforts, coordinate campus nomination and endorsement processes, and advise students interested in applying for nationally competitive fellowships.
Essential Functions
Co-manage the Fulbright process alongside other associate director, with responsibility for:
- Recruiting applicants through targeted outreach and public info sessions
- Developing the annual schedule for selection process.
- Providing individual and small group advising.
- Facilitating summer writing groups.
- Recruiting and scheduling faculty and staff for campus review panels.
- Proofreading applications.
- Developing specialized knowledge related to awards in the portfolio and engaging in continuing education to stay up to date. This includes incorporating award knowledge into strategic planning and advising processes.
- Designing, revising, and administering internal application processes as necessary. This includes selecting application materials, interpreting award criteria, and establishing selection procedures.
- Coordinating campus review processes, selection panels, panels, and mock interviews, as necessary for nomination or to support candidate development. This includes recruiting, scheduling, and chairing selection panels.
- Creating a recruitment strategy to bring in a diverse pool of highly qualified applicants for the award and executing that strategy in conjunction with the program manager for outreach
- Developing and facilitating workshops or other programming to assist applicants in developing their applications
- Advising applicants one-on-one or in small group settings, especially on areas of greatest complexity for that application process and coordinating with other advisors to support candidates as needed.
- Ensuring applications and supporting materials are submitted on time and at the highest possible quality.
- Supporting award selection and administration activities, such as reviewing applications or facilitating review panels, at the direction of the award lead.
- Providing one-on-one or small group advising for some subset of applicants, either on an ongoing or ad hoc basis, at the discretion of the award lead.
- Meeting regularly with the award lead to coordinate activities and maintain consistent guidance and standards for candidates under advisement.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and
work experience.

- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in higher education environment – teaching; research; program development, administration, or evaluation; grant writing; advising.
- Passion for student development important. Experience working with high achieving
- students and/or graduate students helpful. International experience or graduate STEM
- experience helpful. Commitment to fostering a broad and diverse applicant pool valued.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills absolutely essential. Ability to
- interact professionally, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with diverse
- faculty, administrators, students – individually and in small groups – is necessary.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple projects is essential.
- Excellent organizational and administrative ability desired. Detail -oriented.
- Interest in continued learning and growth highly valued.

Additional Information
This position is classified as exempt, grade K. Compensation for this grade ranges from $54,630 to $81,940 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
