  • Thorough knowledge of a wide range of HVAC systems and units, tools and equipment needed for repairs and preventive maintenance service

  • Conduct investigation to identify trouble areas, make repairs on HVAC components (e.g., contactors, condensers, motors, controls, etc).

  • Knowledgeable on hot water condensers, chilled water systems, pumps, control valves, heat exchangers, relays, cooling towers, air moving heating / cooling, humidification and filtering equipment, fans, fan coils, package units, electrical and pneumatic systems, humastasts, ductstats, pressure and volume controls, low and high pressure boilers in order to troubleshoot, diagnose and make repairs to these.

  • Perform installation and modification work on HVACs systems

  • Effective testing of and use of calibration of equipment, gauges, and the proper handling of refrigerant, and refrigerant charging systems.

  • Maintain records of equipment repairs, adjustments, replacement parts, and report problems to the Director of Facilities. Utilize Asset Essential software for tracking, logging time, and closing work orders

  • Have general knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, appliances (residential and commercial), regulating/adjusting/calibrating controls, lighting, utilities (water, sewer, electrical, gas). Service and troubleshoot

  • Attend / complete all required safety training and meetings (e.g., OSHA, machinery operation training, Bloodborne pathogens, fire safety, etc). Follow all safety practices and policies.

  • Support additional functions and services provided by the Campus Service Center (custodial and grounds maintenance, such as, but not limited to cleaning, laying carpet/LVT, snow/ice removal, disaster clean up, etc.).

  • Good verbal and written communication skills to interact with all levels of the University community to educate and provide customer service.

  • Participate in weekly on call rotations - some nights and week

  • ends are required.

  • Other job duties/responsibilities may be assigned .

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is preferred.
  • Proven experience working with refrigerant, HVAC units, and familiarity with many types of general maintenance work
  • Proven ability to diagnose and repair equipment, and follow safety instructions and directions.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and other equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Excellent active listening, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and reliable with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to lift 35-50 lbs
