Job Summary/Basic Function

The Director of Marketing and Public Relations will drive the voice and vision of Bay College, bringing its mission to life through strategic, innovative, and impactful communications. This position shapes and champions the college’s identity, reaching and resonating with audiences from prospective students to community stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in marketing, public relations, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing, with diverse audiences, in a professional manner.
  • Proficiency in standard office software applications and ability to learn new software as need arises.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design and digital imaging software.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in organization and project management.
  • Ability to prioritize marketing and communications requests accordingly.
  • Ability to work independently with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively schedule time on task and maintain effective communications with college staff while operating with a high degree of autonomy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in public relations, marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities, experience managing a diverse team, and excellent problem-solving skills for navigating complex public-facing situations.

Supervises Creative Services Specialist, Web Services & Design Manager, Events, Communications and Alumni Coordinator, and Campus Events Technician.

Reports directly to the College President.

Digital Communication & Campaign Management:
  • Plans, develops, schedules, executes, and evaluates targeted, cross-channel digital communication and advertising campaigns to achieve recruitment and communication goals.
  • Develops and executes digital strategy across social media, the website, and other platforms by creating and managing content, optimizing for user engagement, analyzing performance metrics, and overseeing digital campaigns, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance brand presence and audience connection.
  • Continually evaluates marketing and advertising results, implementing strategies to drive consistent improvement.
  • Tracks and analyzes campaign performance, continuously optimizing strategies to amplify reach, engagement, and results.
Job Duty

Social Media & Digital Platform Oversight:
  • Oversees Bay College’s presence on social media, other relevant digital platforms, as well as traditional advertising and communication channels such as radio, newspaper, and television.
  • Investigates and understands the various digital platforms used by each of the college’s key target audiences, provides recommendations for integration into college communication practices, and ensures messages are customized, formatted, and delivered optimally.
  • Provides expertise on digital trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.

Content Creation & Brand Voice:
  • Writes and edits college publications, promotional materials, and press releases, consistently embodying Bay College’s voice.
  • Maintains high-quality content standards and brand equity across all digital and traditional channels.
  • Supports employees who represent the College to the public by assisting with presentation development and related written materials.

Website Management:
  • Oversees the Bay College website, analyzing search engine optimization ( SEO )to enhance performance and refine strategies to maximize reach, engagement, and results.
  • Assists with maintaining portions of the college website as needed.

Marketing Coordination and Analytics:
  • Coordinates Bay College’s marketing efforts with external vendors and consultants.
  • Works with employees to use data analytics for fund allocation across market segments, combining digital and traditional methods for a cohesive strategy.
  • Works with employees/departments and uses data analytics to guide fund allocation across various market segments, integrating digital and traditional methods for a cohesive strategy across both campuses and the community.
  • Provides support for divisional and college-wide events and activities as needed.
  • Develops project timelines, effectively communicates with stakeholders, and manages project elements to meet deadlines.

Financial Oversight:
  • Monitors departmental budgets to ensure effective use of funds.
  • Tracks all college sponsorships and allocates funds to agencies requesting sponsorships based on added value.

  • Serves as the press point of contact during emergencies, guiding clear, accurate, and timely communications.
  • Acts as the secondary liaison with the Strategic Partnership and Workforce Innovations team to strengthen Bay College’s role as a valued community partner.
