GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This is a full-time, nine-month, faculty position responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the chair.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs an equivalent of thirty teaching load credits (TLC) for the combined fall and spring semesters; reduction of teaching load through reassignment of duties is possible under certain circumstances.
2. May conduct supplemental instructional activities such as independent studies, internships, and advising.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides services to the university and the profession and engages in research/scholarly/creative activities.
2. May supervise the work of student and/or graduate assistants.
3. May serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge and practical experience in the field in which the individual will be teaching.
2. Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and/or graduate students.
3. Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.
4. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
5. Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.

EDUCATION:
Master's degree in the field in which the individual will be teaching is required.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Practical experience sufficient to teach at a university level, through teaching or profession, is required.

OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:
The Department of Media and Communication at Stephen F. Austin State University, a member of The University of Texas System. is searching for a motivated educator and professional to fill a lecturer position in Communication beginning August 2025. The lecturer position in Communication is assigned undergraduate courses in the communication section of the university core including SPCH 1315 Public Speaking and SPCH 1318 Interpersonal Communication. Teaching will primarily be face-to-face but may include online courses as assigned. Lecturers teach an equivalent of 10 teaching units of work (5 courses in the Fall semester and 5 courses in the Spring semester) during the regular academic year; reduction of teaching load through reassignment of duties is possible under certain circumstances. Service to the department, college, or university may include committee work. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Communication or related discipline.
  • Ability to effectively teach face-to-face undergraduate courses in public speaking and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to represent the department to students to promote courses, majors, minors, and certificates.

Preference:
  • Ph.D. or ABD with experience teaching communication courses at the university level is preferred.
