The Great Smokies Writing Program (GSWP) offers opportunities for
writers of all levels to join a supportive learning community in
which their skills and talents can be explored, practiced, and
forged under the careful eye of professional writers. Classes
within the GSWP include poetic form, worldbuilding in fiction,
writing braided personal essays and more. The program is committed
to providing the community with university-level classes led by
published writers and experienced teachers.The Director of the
Great Smokies Writing Program will be a well-published author with
the ability to manage a growing program with the goal of
strengthening UNCA's reputation as a center for the literary arts.
The Director will manage both the day-to-day operation of the
program as well as the broader responsibilities of fundraising,
recruiting and retaining faculty and students, and advancing the
reputation of the university in the larger literary community of
western North Carolina and beyond.
