The Institutional Research Data Analyst will work directly with the Director of Institutional Research at Notre Dame of University to support data collection, verification, analysis, and reporting needs to external organizations and agencies, as well as to internal stakeholders across various departments. The position will perform routine and ad hoc reporting; manage small- and large-scale data and research projects; and advance the Office of Institutional Research’s capability to serve the university's management information needs. This role involves developing SQL scripts using Ellucian Colleague ERP platform and/or creating and modifying CROA reports to ensure data quality, integrity, and security. The position requires a strong understanding of data analysis methodologies, advanced technical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.



Essential Functions:
  • Perform data collection, verification, and analysis to support internal stakeholders and external reporting needs, including federal, state, and accreditation requirements.
  • Work with various departments (e.g., Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, academic departments) to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency.
  • Develop and modify CROA reports to support university management information needs and streamline reporting processes.
  • Analyze data, write narrative reports, and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Identify trends, opportunities, and concerns through data analysis to support university management information needs.
  • Assist in the preparation of federal, State, accreditation, and other external reporting requirements.
  • Support the academic schools and departments in meeting accreditation and other regulatory reporting requirements.
  • In consultation with the Director of Student Success, serve as the IR point of contact and analyst for the EAB Navigate platform ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and consistency.
  • Coordinates the creation and maintenance of appropriate technical documentation related to data processes, SQL scripts, and CROA reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and personal information and ensure data handling aligns with university policies.
  • Serve on university committees, taskforces, and workgroups as designated by the Director of Institutional Research.
  • Perform such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required.
Qualifications:



Education : A bachelor’s degree in a field such as Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university. A master’s degree in these areas or in Higher Education Administration is preferred.

Experience:
  • At least one (1) year of hands-on experience writing SQL queries to extract, manipulate, and analyze data.
  • Familiarity with higher education data systems such as Ellucian Colleague (preferred), Banner, PeopleSoft, or other Student Information Systems (SIS).
  • Experience with reporting for federal and state requirements (e.g., IPEDS, FVT/GE), and familiarity with accrediting bodies' data requirements.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience.
Skills/Aptitude :
  • Strong analytical skills and understanding of statistical concepts, data elements, and data analysis.
  • Ability to write scripts (e.g., SQL, Python, R) to automate repetitive tasks or for advanced data manipulation.
  • Experience with research design, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and reporting methodologies.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office Suite (e.g. Excel) and familiarity with analytical tools (e.g. SPSS/STATA/SAS, Tableau, etc.).
  • Advanced skills in managing data-related projects, including coordinating with various departments, meeting deadlines, and documenting processes.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to work in a collaborative environment, interacting with faculty, administrators, and IT staff to gather data requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a positive attitude and adaptability to rapidly changing technologies.
Working Conditions : Normal office environment (walking, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching, etc.). Light physical demands such as bending, carrying, kneeling, lifting, and pushing may be required.
