POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Track and Field Coach – Sprints/Hurdles will be responsible for the design and implementation of the men’s and women’s sprints and hurdles program. Working with other event group coaches and reporting to the head coach, the candidate will have primary responsibility for developing athletes from 60m to 400m and for short and long hurdle groups. The ideal candidate will also participate in the recruitment of student-athletes for the sprinting and hurdle events. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
This is a part-time position for which the specific schedule and stipend will be determined by or with the head coach.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide coaching and instruction to student-athletes
participating in the sprints and hurdles events;
- Develop a weekly schedule for training/practice and
communicating this to the athletes on a consistent basis;
- Attendance at practices which typically occur weekdays in late
afternoons/evenings and meets which typically occur on Fridays
and/or weekends (mostly Saturdays);
- Oversee strength development and/or plyometric routines and/or
collaborate with other coaches on staff or within the strength and
conditioning department to ensure these routines are instructed and
completed correctly;
- Assist with administrative duties to include completing meet
entries online by specified deadlines;
- Assist with actively recruiting new student-athletes to the
program that meet the stringent academic requirements of the
college and are compatible with a Division III program (e.g.
non-scholarship, etc).
- Demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship, and conduct
representative of the coaching profession;
- Maintain compliance with rules and regulations of the
department, institution, conference and NCAA;
- Mentor and develop a positive culture for
student-athletes;
- Ensure set-up/clean-up of equipment (e.g. sleds, starting
blocks, hurdles, etc) to facilitate sprint/hurdle training as
needed on a daily basis
- All other duties as assigned and therefore deemed necessary and
appropriate by the head coach and/or the Director of Athletics or
his/her representative.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education
and/or experience may serve in lieu of a degree
- The ideal candidate should have coaching experience and a
proven ability to teach a range of abilities. They should have a
passion for the sport, the Division III philosophy, and player
development. The candidate should be a positive, energetic, and
trustworthy leader with strong organizational skills, excellent
communication, and the ability to work collaboratively and
independently
- Work hours that may be diverse and long, including evenings and weekends for instruction, team travel, recruiting and scouting, team travel, recruiting and competition. Time will be spent in various environments, including indoor and outdoor facilities.
