Description
The nurse faculty member is hired by the Director of the School of Nursing in consultation with members of the Faculty Search Committee.
Tracks: Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor, Non-tenured
Responsibilities are outlined below, but specific requirements may adjust from academic year to year based on school needs or discussions between the faculty member and the Director. Each nursing faculty member reports directly to the Director and will undergo an annual evaluation process to assess areas of teaching and service to the School of Nursing and University. Scholarship is not a requirement under the clinical track; however, involvement is highly encouraged and supported.

Responsibilities
Nursing faculty responsibilities may include:
- Teaching didactic, skills lab and simulation based on faculty workload assignment each semester.
- Provide academic advisement for students.
- Provide experiential supervision as assigned by Director.
- Provide meaningful and sustained service to department, college, and university.
- Maintain clinical and content expertise in fields of qualifications, including clinical competencies for practice and/or health requirements ( CPR, immunizations, etc).
- Demonstrate respect for professional and ethical principles when interacting with other faculty, staff, students, administrators, and members of the public.
- Attend university-sponsored events, i.e. Open Houses, Accepted Students Days, Graduation Ceremonies (may include evenings and/or weekends).
- Participate and develop interprofessional opportunities within the college and university.
- Maintain consistent presence in School of Nursing to support functions of department and support student learning needs.
- Maintain compliance with Human Resource requirements for faculty role.
- Demonstrates effective teaching of course delivery as indicated by student course evaluations, peer and supervisor observation of teaching and presentation of materials that demonstrate knowledge of pedagogy and a focus on student learning.
- Develop, deliver and evaluate didactic and experiential components of coursework and contribute to data for accreditation and improvement processes.
- Teaching may include areas such as classroom, clinical practice, skills lab, simulation, core curriculum courses on the Biddeford campus, experiential opportunities and guest lecture interprofessionally. This can include preparation time, maintaining best-practice competence in subjects being taught, test construction, conferring with students on course materials, evaluating written examinations and papers, and curriculum development, evaluation, and revision.
- Student advisement and mentorship includes meeting with students regarding academic needs, curricular design and revision, career advice or professional issues.
- Serve on departmental-level committees initially, expanding to college and university, that contribute advancement of department and greater community as described in faculty handbook and department policies.
- Participate in experiential or community-based opportunities which support student learning and outcomes (i.e. supervision at vaccination clinics).
- Engage in interprofessional opportunities within the school, college and university.
- Clinical Track – not required although highly encouraged and supported.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing, preference in Nursing Education
- Current valid nursing licensure in the State of Maine.
- 3-5 years recent, continuous clinical experience in the practice of professional nursing courses.
- Preferred one year of teaching experience in baccalaureate or higher nursing program.
- Preferred engagement in professional nursing and/or educational organizations.
