Position Purpose

The Trades Training Manager is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and management of training programs for trades personnel, ensuring alignment with industry standards, safety regulations, and the organization’s strategic goals. This role focuses on developing comprehensive training programs that foster the growth and development of the technical workforce, ensuring that employees acquire the skills needed to perform their duties safely and effectively. The Trades Training Manager works closely with the Director of CS HR & Learning & Development, department leaders, subject matter experts, and external partners to deliver training that meets the organization’s evolving needs, driving continuous improvement and compliance in technical operations. Additionally, the position involves managing special projects the Senior Director of Operations assigns, requiring a high level of organization, analytical skills, and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.

Are you a seasoned trades professional with a passion for teaching and mentoring? We’re looking for a Trades Training Manager to share their leadership skills and expertise and help SEIU employees and apprentices elevate their skills and careers. In this role, you’ll design and deliver top-notch training programs, offering hands-on guidance to develop technical abilities. You’ll also work closely with our Director of HR and Learning & Development to ensure the success of the Trades Development program.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp

High School plus 5+ years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Ten years experience in multiple trades, with a solid understanding of technical skills and best practices.
  • Industry Standards: In-depth knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements relevant to the trades and technical fields.
  • Teaching Skills: Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for teaching, with experience mentoring or providing on-the-job training.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adjust training methods to accommodate different learning styles and evolving industry standards.
  • Must have a current Driver’s license and be able to qualify as a Dartmouth Approved Driver.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification: Relevant trade certifications or licenses.
  • Trades Qualification: A background in electrical, plumbing, or HVAC is a plus.
  • Training Experience: Previous experience in a training or instructional role within a trade environment.
  • Program Development: Experience developing and managing apprenticeship programs or similar training initiatives.

Instruction & Facilitation
  • Hands-on Training: Conduct hands-on training sessions for current trades employees and internal apprentices in multiple trades, focusing mainly on entry-level skills in the building repair and building services roles. This position will also involve working with supervisors to train employees interested in improving their discipline.
  • Mentorship: Provide ongoing guidance and support to employees and apprentices, fostering their growth and skill development through one-on-one and group mentorship.

Program Management
  • Curriculum Development: Develop customized training plans for different trades, such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general maintenance.
  • Apprentice Program Management: Oversee the certified State of NH training programs for internal apprentices, ensuring comprehensive instruction and support throughout their learning process. Create and monitor the success of this program.
  • Performance Assessment: Assess the effectiveness of training programs and make data-driven improvements based on feedback and performance evaluations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with industry trends and advancements, incorporating new techniques and technologies into training programs.
  • Training Schedule: Coordinate with the CS HR & Learning & Development Director to determine appropriate training needs.
