Job Description:

Advises undergraduate students in the construction of schedules and core curriculum, major, and elective requirements. Assists in registration and drop/add, approves AP credit, and approves transfer credit to satisfy curriculum requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Include advising undergraduate students majoring in Nursing. Participate in departmental and university outreach activities.

  • Deliver public presentations through department and University sponsored events.

  • Assist with the execution of departmental administrative duties, including data analysis provided by Chair and inquiries regarding nursing student admission.

  • Help coordinate various department programs and events.

  • Assist with the preparation, collection and reporting of nursing program data and statistics.

  • Experience with high volume of customer service inquiry and response.

  • Maintain total staff and departmental confidentiality. Flexibility for minimal weekend commitments.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze, summarize, and effectively present data.

  • Act as liaison to the Financial Aid Office for nursing scholarship awardees re: scholarship availability, student eligibility and notification of students.

  • Member of ad hoc Scholarship Committee.

  • Maintain student progression data to facilitate course scheduling and student registrations.

  • This is to ensure that all students have a seat in their required courses.

  • Contact with other non-nursing departments is essential to maintaining course and seat accessibility.

  • Monitor student progression and assist with policies and procedures regarding student progression issues.

  • Maintains student registrations for errors and corrections as needed. Complete senior checkout.

  • Work closely with the Department Chair and program coordinators on student-related problems and graduation eligibility.

  • Collaborate with the Graduate Committee and the graduate coordinator on admission, registration issues, class enrollment/seat availability, and individual student issues.

  • Responsible for course scheduling and work closely with the Department of Nursing Faculty Advisory Council to ensure all course scheduling needs are satisfied.

  • Avoid/resolve conflicts of departmental courses with each other and with courses outside the department that are part of department curricula.

  • Respond to inquiries, investigate, and resolve problems related to undergraduate transactions handled by the department.

  • Interpret and explain college and university policies and procedures.

  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education. Experience in academic advising, student personnel administration, and/or counseling is preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge of the University student record system (Peoplesoft), policies, and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data and use advanced techniques in spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.

  • Proficient in Word Excel, Outlook and knowledge of HTML is a plus. (Excel and web design software is preferred).
