Description:

Reporting to and in support of the AVP of Intellectual Property and Industrial Engagement and located within the Office of Technology Transfer and Innovation (OTTI), this position will cultivate the university portfolio of industry sponsored projects with particular attention on the protection of university intellectual property. Evaluates and analyzes markets, particularly in Houston and across Texas, to identify potential partners. Identifies, markets and collaborates with potential industry partners to expand the innovation ecosystem at the Technology Bridge.

1. Designs, implements, and manages a comprehensive and proactive development plan focused on expanding and enhancing relationships with industry partners interested in increasing industry sponsored research and, in collaboration with OTTI staff, in licensing UH intellectual property.
2. Cultivates relationships with faculty researchers to define research activities of interest to industry stakeholders and liaises between faculty and said industry representatives to construct an effective strategy for sponsored research.
3. Identifies for-profit (industrial) companies and non-profit organizations for collaboration and sponsored projects, across multiple sectors (pharma/biotech/medical, energy, industrials, information technology, etc.).
4. Fosters and engages collaborative efforts with internal and external stakeholders.
5. Increases industry sponsored research by building relationships with and serving as a point of contact with potential industrial partners.
6. Builds strategic partnerships with industry research and development organizations.
7. Supervises and mentors industry engagement and technology transfer staff, evaluates performance and provides formal and informal guidance; sets departmental goals and objectives, including workforce planning and assesses priorities as appropriate in order to achieve objectives.
8. Balances the needs of a complex set of stakeholders including faculty, students, administration, industry partners and sponsors, entrepreneurs, and investors.
9. Collaborates with faculty to identify research activities to attract prospective industry partners and sponsored research.
10. Performs other job-related duties as required.

MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Preferred: An advanced degree, preferably PhD, in an engineering or science discipline.

Experience: Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience. Preferred: At least two (2) years in industry research and/or technology development. Certification/Licensing: None.
