The University of Montana invites applications for a Research Project Director and Event Manager for the Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research . Working in tandem with the ITRR director, research scientists, and various external partners, the Research Project Director and Event Manager will play a pivotal role in managing research projects, guaranteeing that their quality meets high expectations, and adhering to timelines to facilitate the effective execution and finalization of research endeavors and events.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
Research Project Planning and Coordination
- Manage ITRR research project timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
- Assist in graduate student supervision and project assignments (~5-8 students).
- Allocate resources efficiently to meet project requirements.
- Monitor and manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to financial constraints.
- Facilitate communication between research teams, faculty, and external partners.
- Communicate project outcomes to the ITRR team.
- Identify potential risks and challenges associated with research projects.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with ethical standards and research protocols.
- Lead the planning and execution of ITRR events, including timeline development, venue selection, budget management, vendor negotiations, and on-site coordination.
- Develop and implement a research education and training strategy aligned with the ITRR objectives.
- Direct and oversee the development of instructional materials, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree
- At least five years of experience in managing complex projects.
- Knowledge of Project Management Programs like Microsoft Teams.
- Five years of experience in developing and managing education and training program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education, Training, Human Resources, Social Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in project management.
- Proven experience as an Education and Training Director or similar role.
- Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, and direct large-scale training programs.
- Ability to assess training needs and translate them into successful training programs.
- Experience in budget management and reporting.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated organizational and multitasking skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and project management tools.
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
