Liver Transplant Anesthesiologist with Research Assistant Professor

Location: Philadelphia, PA
Open Date: Jun 05, 2024
Deadline: Jun 05, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Prior experience in liver transplant anesthesiology is strongly preferred. ABA certification in anesthesiology or status as a candidate in the examination system along with ability to obtain a Pennsylvania license are required.

Teaching responsibilities may include the instruction of medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through the operating rooms and wards of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) as well as participation in lectures, small groups, workshops, and/or simulation sessions.

Clinical responsibilities may include the provision of general and liver transplant anesthesia services at HUP and PPMC.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include publishing peer-reviewed publications and presenting your work at scientific meetings and other venues. Securing grants is required on the tenure track and encouraged on the clinician educator track. The strongest candidates for this position will have prior peer-reviewed publications.

Both the non-tenure clinician educator track (clinician scholar) and the tenure track involve a substantial commitment to research, including investigator-initiated and collaborative research. Clinicians educators are primarily engaged in collaborative and sometimes independent research. Tenure track faculty are primarily engaged in independent or innovative collaborative research. Are you interested in this position but are unsure about if it's the right fit? We welcome prospective candidates to visit the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Faculty Life and Professional Development website to learn more about the different tracks: https://www.med.upenn.edu/flpd/career-development/
