The Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies (ELPS) in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences at Florida State University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-earning Associate/Assistant Professor position with a focus on Higher Education. We seek a colleague committed to research, mentorship, teaching, and advising. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in ongoing research in a well-defined scholarship agenda with clear connections to higher education; to teach masters and doctoral courses; advise students in our face-to-face Higher Education M.S. and Ph.D., face-to-face department-wide graduate courses, and online department-wide Ed.D. program; contribute to academic service and leadership; and extend an established external funding agenda to support research projects, which could include new collaborative and partnership opportunities at FSU.

 

We are especially interested in colleagues who can complement and enhance existing department and program strengths areas. Expertise is particularly welcome on organizations, institutional contexts, and structures; college affordability and finances; legal issues in higher education; academic affairs; qualitative and/or mixed methodologies.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake a robust research program in a well-defined area of scholarship with clear connections to higher education. The candidate should have a publication record and a record of seeking and/or securing external funding, commensurate with level. The candidate will be expected to advise graduate students in the MS and PhD programs as well as chairing committees. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach and advise students in the online EdD program including chairing EdD committees. 

 

ELPS strives to develop a deep understanding of, and respect for our students and colleagues. The Department enrolls a sizable population of students in MS, PhD, and online EdD degree programs.  We seek a colleague who is committed to and capable of effectively educating students across multiple programs.

Responsibilities

  • Engaging in a well-defined scholarship agenda courses on higher education, educational organizations, and/or research methodology, especially qualitative and/or mixed methodologies;
  • Developing and submitting grant proposals, solely and with colleagues, to appropriate funding agencies;
  • Teaching graduate courses in face-to-face and/or online programs including content and/or research methodology courses, especially around qualitative and/or mixed methodological strengths;
  • Advising graduate students in MS, online EdD, and PhD programs;
  • Serving on graduate committees, including chairing Ed.D. and Ph.D. student dissertations; and
  • Providing service to the university, the department, the college, and the profession.

 

Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in education policy, or related education field, from a college of education, a school of public policy and/or from the social science disciplines,
  • Evidence of high-quality scholarship (e.g., recent publications in peer-reviewed journals, working papers, recent presentations at national or international conferences),
  • Experience securing and managing federal, state, or private/foundation fellowships and grants focused on higher education topics (from postsecondary access through workforce), commensurate with level;

  • Commitment to and experience working with diverse student populations,
  • Ability to teach courses on higher education, educational organizations, and/or research methodology, especially qualitative and/or mixed methodologies;
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with teaching or training in research design courses (literature review, prospectus development, applied qualitative and quantitative methods, etc.),
  • Evidence of success in garnering external funding for research consistent with scholarly interests.
  • Experience with mentorship, in preparation for training M.S. and Ph.D. Higher Education students, and chairing Ed.D. and Ph.D. student dissertations;
  • Experience in and/or interest in both face-to-face online instruction;
  • Experience in working with organizations and systems, inclusive of P-20 institutions; districts; governing boards; state/federal departments of education, college systems, and/or departments of economic opportunity/ workforce development; policy agencies; and/or academic affairs departments, offices, and/or leadership.
