Job Summary

The University of Colorado encourages applications for a UMC Maintenance Supervisor position! This hands-on role is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations and maintenance activities of the University Memorial Center, ensuring that all facility systems and equipment are functioning optimally. This position will report to the UMC Senior Facilities Manager and will supervise a team of maintenance staff, ensuring the timely and effective execution of maintenance tasks and preventive programs. The UMC Maintenance Supervisor will serve as the key point of contact for staff, ensuring smooth operations and a high standard of facility maintenance.

The University Memorial Center (UMC) is an exciting center for activism and community interaction, offering a variety of student services and active student governance. Known as the campus “living room,” thousands of people visit the University Memorial Center every day to grab a bite to eat, enjoy free entertainment, shop the retail stores, study with the free wireless internet or engage with peers. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Day-to-Day Facility Management:
  • Direct and participate in the daily maintenance and repair activities of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and lighting.
  • Supervise and lead maintenance personnel, assigning tasks and ensuring timely completion of work orders.
  • Monitor and inspect interior and exterior areas of the facility, identifying issues and implementing corrective measures.
  • Assist in maintaining the preventive and predictive maintenance programs, ensuring equipment longevity and minimizing system downtime.
  • Collaborate with the UMC Setup/AV Manager, UMC Custodial Manager, and UMC Operations Manager to ensure seamless day-to-day facility standards.
  • Support snow and ice removal efforts and provide guidance to the UMC Snow Team during inclement weather conditions.

Staff Supervision and Development:
  • Supervise, train, and develop the maintenance team, which includes maintenance staff and temporary employees.
  • Assign tasks, monitor team performance, and ensure adherence to safety protocols and work quality standards.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and communicate relevant updates from the Senior Facilities Manager.
  • Lead the onboarding and training process for new staff and implement continuous improvement initiatives for the team.
  • Foster a safe, collaborative, and inclusive work environment in accordance with UMC and campus-wide standards.

Work Order and Preventive Maintenance Management:
  • Manage the work order system, prioritizing and delegating tasks to team members.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, and system audits.
  • Assist in the continued development and refinement of maintenance schedules within the TMA work order system.
  • Track and analyze maintenance data to identify trends, potential issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform regular audits of the work order system to ensure accurate record-keeping and workload distribution among team members.

Systems and Project Support:
  • Provide on-the-ground support for facility improvement and construction projects, ensuring coordination between the maintenance team and external contractors.
  • Assist with the management of building automation and control systems, working closely with the Senior Facilities Manager to maintain building temperature, air pressure, and energy efficiencies.
  • Support the Senior Facilities Manager in access control and lock/key management duties.

Emergency Response and Other Duties:
  • Be available for after-hours and weekend support, including emergency maintenance or facility-related incidents.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Senior Facilities Manager, ensuring continuous facility operations and supporting special projects as needed.

What We Require
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination and experience may substitute.
  • 2+ years of experience in facility maintenance or a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive university vehicles.

What You Will Need

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

What We Would Like You to Have
  • Direct experience with HVAC or electrical.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building systems.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience with work order management systems (TMA preferred).
