Position Purpose

The Director, GrantGPS leads Dartmouth’s grant proposal support initiative, assisting campus partners in developing, communicating, and coordinating research strategies to maximize opportunities for securing grants of $10M or more. This role also identifies and shares emerging areas of strength and interest among faculty and Dartmouth leadership, ensuring the institution stays ahead of funding trends and maintains its position as a leading research university.

GrantGPS supports Dartmouth’s faculty across more than 50 disciplines, offering a wide range of services such as grant-writing workshops, individual consultations, and publishing guidance . The initiative helps faculty pursue large research grants from federal agencies such as NIH , NSF , DoD, and private foundations like the Guggenheim . Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area and minimum 8 years related experience.
  • Faculty or administrative leadership experience in higher education.
  • Familiarity with university research and scholarship systems and processes.
  • Demonstrated success in grant seeking and award management, including large-scale ($10M+) and multi-project proposals.
  • Exceptional writing and analytical skills.
  • Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships across departments and disciplines.
  • Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse academic community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in a relevant area or the equivalent in education and experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of the scholarship funding landscape, including federal and state sponsors, individual fellowships, and publications.

Description

Institutional Support of Research Strategy -
· Collaborates with academic deans, senior leadership, and faculty to coordinate and develop the institution’s research strategy.
· Leverages a broad understanding of faculty scholarly interests to identify strategic and programmatic funding opportunities and shares and supports these applications, including large ($10M+), multi-project proposals
· Utilizes external intelligence to identify and promote grant and scholarly opportunities, fostering strategic initiatives across schools to enhance convergence and efficiency.
· Deploys GrantGPS resources to secure extramural funding, including federal, state, pilot, fellowship, and publication opportunities.
· Models GPS’s intellectual engagement and collegiality while leading proposal development.

Program Leadership -
· Oversees all GrantGPS activities and services.
· Recruits, trains, and supervises staff to provide grant-seeking support and faculty development across diverse intellectual domains.
· Evaluates program success, implements new strategies, and shares outcomes in campus and professional forums to increase visibility and impact.

Description

Faculty Support -
· Works directly with faculty, individually or in shared-interest groups, to develop tailored strategies for securing sustained support for new or expanded scholarly activities, including identifying large-scale funding opportunities.
· Guides, supports, and contributes to collaborative proposal writing with faculty and staff colleagues for individual and programmatic projects.
· Develops relationships with faculty as a trusted intellectual and administrative partner, helping to refine and strengthen proposals.
