Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
Massey University invites applications for the position of Research Administrator- Team Lead within our Post Award Team. This role is pivotal in overseeing all aspects of post-award grant and contract administration. Team Leads play a crucial role in managing a team of 1-2 Research Administration staff members, with a primary focus on supporting Principal Investigators (PIs) and study teams in their research endeavors. Responsibilities include meticulous management of the financial and administrative components of awarded grants and contracts, ensuring strict adherence to funding agency guidelines and university policies, and facilitating effective communication among internal stakeholders and external collaborators.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with key stakeholders including the Director of Finance and Business Operations, Assistant Director of Finance and Research Administration, departmental administrators, and PIs within Massey and VCU. This role provides an excellent opportunity for candidates with research administration experience to gain supervisory responsibilities in a supportive, fast-paced, and diverse environment. You will have the chance to advance your career and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while collaborating with a diverse group of faculty and staff at Massey and VCU.
Other job duties include and are not limited to:
· Portfolio Management - Provide comprehensive post-award support for grants and contracts, focusing on budget monitoring, financial reporting, compliance review, and successful close-out.
· Team Leadership - Supervise and mentor members of the post-award team, ensuring effective oversight, training, and professional development
· Communication and Reporting- Foster collaboration with Principal Investigators, project teams, university departments, central units, and external partners and sponsors to facilitate effective communication and reporting.
· Effort Reporting- Act as the effort coordinator for awards within the portfolio, ensuring accurate and timely effort reporting
· Process Improvement and Professional Development- Stay abreast of regulatory changes and best practices in grant and contract administration. Actively participate in training, development, process improvement initiatives, and special projects aimed at enhancing efficiency and customer service within Massey’s post-award support
Telework Eligibility:
This position offers eligibility for hybrid and remote telework arrangements. Individuals outside the Richmond area are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
Minimum Hiring Standards:
· Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
· Experience: At least 2 years of direct post-award research administration experience, including working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and OMB Uniform Guidance for Federal Awards
Skills:
· Proficiency in budget development/modification, financial transaction analysis, expense forecasting, report creation, and financial reconciliation.
· Ability to interpret and apply complex government regulations and contractual terms.
· Strong customer service, communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe, with the ability to learn new software applications quickly.
Preferred Hiring Standards:
· Education: Master’s degree strongly preferred.
· Experience: Over 3 years of direct experience in research administration, including, financial management, effort reporting, and project close-out.
· Certifications: CRA certification or a commitment to pursue certification within the first year preferred.
· Supervisory experience preferred.
