Spelman College seeks teacher/scholars dedicated to excellence in teaching and to the continued enhancement of the academic environment for students and colleagues. Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education. All tenure-track candidates are expected to have a demonstrated interest in liberal arts and sciences education, contribute effectively to undergraduate teaching, advising students, assist in curriculum development, provide service to the department to include programming and to the College, as well as be active in scholarly, creative, and/or research productivity appropriate to the Comparative Women’s Studies Program and a liberal arts environment.
Position Description
The Women’s Research and Resource Center invites applications for a tenure- track position with a focus on women’s health at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2025. Candidates should have teaching experience and a commitment to research in global women’s health and Women’s and Gender Studies. Candidates should be prepared to teach Introduction to Women’s Studies courses, and upper division courses in women’s health, as well as assist in strengthening the women’s health concentration as a component of the Comparative Women’s Studies major. All courses will be taught in-person. Specialized fields may include health status of women of African descent, and comparative feminist health studies. Grant writing experience as well as evidence of successful research and the potential for publication are desirable.

Qualifications
Ph.D. in Women’s Studies. Candidates with specialization in medical anthropology; history of science/medicine; or related interdisciplinary programs such as African American Studies, African Diaspora Studies, American Studies are highly desirable.
