Position Summary

Th Health Department at State University of New York College at Cortland welcomes applications for a full-time tenure-track Instructor or Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2025. The department is seeking a faculty member with a background and expertise in the area of Healthcare Management/Administration, Business Management/Administration or a closely related field.

The Health Department has approximately 200 undergraduate and graduate students across our majors in healthcare management, human service studies, community health and school health education. The department also provides required courses for a number of degree programs across the college.

Potential areas of instruction for the instructor or assistant professor include healthcare policy, healthcare finance, legal and ethical issues in healthcare, healthcare operations, management of healthcare agencies, quality improvement, health information management & technology, and post-acute and long-term care. Other areas will depend on individual expertise and could include coursework related to behavioral health, mental health and counseling, and fieldwork/internship supervision. Faculty are also required to engage in scholarly work, advise students, and provide service to the department, campus, university, community, and/or the profession.

Major Responsibilities

Teaching
  • Teach courses and assess learning among undergraduate and graduate health majors. Priority areas of instruction may include: healthcare policy, healthcare finance, health information management & technology, healthcare operations, management of healthcare agencies, quality improvement, and post-acute and long-term care. Other areas will depend on individual expertise but could include coursework related to behavioral health, mental health and counseling, health problems of the underserved, and fieldwork/internship supervision.
Scholarship/Research
  • Engage in scholarly work and activities as appropriate to the application and receipt of tenure and promotion at SUNY Cortland.
Service
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the programs and culminating experience advisement and assessment.
  • Provide service to the Health Department, the School of Professional Studies, the SUNY Cortland campus community, the State University of New York, and/or the local/state/national health profession.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships

Reports to the academic department chair
  • Works closely with department faculty
Required Qualifications

Instructor Rank-

Education:
Master’s degree in Healthcare Management/Administration, Business Administration/Management or a closely related field

Experience: At least 5 years of professional work experience in a US healthcare service organization, medical practice, health system or related healthcare business partner

Assistant Professor Rank-

Education:
Doctoral degree or doctoral candidate who is all but dissertation ( ABD ) with degree conferral by August 2026 in Healthcare Management/Administration, Business Administration or closely related field. Please note: Reappointment at this level will not be considered without completed doctorate prior to review date.

Experience: Professional preparation which includes specific coursework related to the US healthcare system and healthcare management/administration

Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience in healthcare management/administration
    or business management/administration at the college level.
  • Professional work experience in a US healthcare service organization, medical practice, health system or related healthcare business partner.
  • Experience with designing and delivering online programs and courses.
