Description
The Department of Art in Clemson University's College of Architecture, Art and Construction invites applications from highly qualified candidates for a full-time position serving as Lecturer of Art and 3D Studio Technician. The successful candidate is a well-rounded artist-educator with contemporary and traditional skills in ceramics, 3d foundations, and sculpture media. They will demonstrate the ability as an instructor to deliver undergraduate coursework and mentor MFA graduate assistants or student workers in those areas. This position will hold a 55% instructional workload and will provide flexible instruction according to enrollment needs in Foundations studios, Beginning studios or Ged Ed (Art Appreciation).
In their 3D studio technician responsibilities, they will work independently and collaboratively with art faculty to provide operational support for the safe and efficient functioning of the ceramics, foundations, and sculpture studios. This includes managing inventory and procurement, ensuring safety compliance, overseeing studio maintenance and infrastructure projects, cooperation with relevant university offices, and other projects or duties as needed. The position will also liaise with the Lee Hall Materials Lab, facilitating safety training and access for art students and faculty in their research or coursework, and contribute across disciplines. Preferred start date is January 2025.

Qualifications
MFA or equivalent terminal degree and documented previous teaching and technical experience is required. Teaching experience beyond Graduate Teaching Assistant is preferred.
CANDIDATES WILL BE EVALUATED ON:
- Knowledge of materials, fabrication, and operation of 3d studio
equipment, with a commitment to environmental health and proper
shop safety practices.
- Ability to instruct and support students in utilizing studio
resources across the art department for various academic
assignments and projects, and mentor graduate assistants' duties in
collaboration with department faculty.
- Ability to teach introductory-level ceramics and sculpture
courses, 3D foundations, and other foundations courses (drawing,
2D, digital arts) or special topics.
- Interest in the development, study of, selection, modification
and adoption of instructional technology/materials, and train
faculty and students in their use.
- Ability to work well with other faculty and students on
collaborative projects, and evidence of engaging, educating, and
mentoring a diverse group of learners.
- Interest in the learning, development, and adoption of best
practices for new materials or technologies (Lee Hall facilities
include 3d printing, ceramic 3d printing, CNC technology, digital
cutting, laser cutting/engraving) and applying them to the
classroom.
- Interest in contributing to special projects or assisting with
department events.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to work well
under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain professionalism and
flexibility in a university environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the
ability to effectively communicate with staff, faculty, students,
and other stakeholders.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess the ability to safely perform the physical work
required of all duties, including manual dexterity, agility,
strength and coordination.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Must possess (or acquire) a valid South Carolina driver's
license and be able to drive standard vehicles.
- Full-time work week is 37.5 hours, with occasional evenings or
weekends.
