Assistant Professor, Forensic Science

The Department of Natural Sciences & Mathematics at Curry College invites applications for a full-time Forensic Science professor at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin late August 2025. Successful candidates will have experience teaching using a variety of methodologies at the undergraduate level with diverse learners. Candidates must also be able to establish and maintain an active research program that involves undergraduate students within the department, including forensic science students.

We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching that promotes inclusive and equity-minded learning environments. Curry College applied for FEPAC accreditation Summer of 2024, with results of evaluation notified in February 2025. As such, we are particularly interested in someone who has documented leadership experience and has significant experience as a forensic practitioner or an academic within forensic science to fill the role of Forensic Science Program Coordinator in addition to teaching responsibilities. Coordinators receive course release that equates to tasks and responsibilities within their administrative role.

The Forensic Science program curriculum includes the following courses:
  1. Introduction to the Forensic Sciences
  2. Forensic photography
  3. Evidence response and recovery
  4. Criminalistics
  5. Crime Laboratory
  6. Research or Internship in Forensic Science

The ideal candidate will be able to teach Introduction to Forensic Science, Crime Laboratory, and an Upper-Level (junior/senior level) forensic science course with 2.5 hour laboratory within their area of expertise.

Candidates should be able to teach standard laboratory protocols within a laboratory setting, including proper storage, removal, presumptive, and analytical testing and report writing involving evidence in biological and chemical sections of a crime lab.

In addition to Forensic Science courses, the candidate will also support our other science programs by teaching introductory courses in Biology, Chemistry, and non-majors Science courses as determined by expertise to satisfy their teaching load.

All full-time faculty are required to teach at least four courses during one semester (one 2.5-hour laboratory section included as one course), and three courses in the second. The forensic science program coordinator receives one course release, with a three-course teaching load both semesters.

Job Requirements:
A Ph.D. in the Natural Sciences, Forensic Science or related fields is strongly preferred. Significant academic (in the form of research/publications) or at least five years working experience in Forensic Science is required for consideration. Individuals actively involved with forensic science organizations(s) are also preferred.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and the ability to develop a robust laboratory or field-based research program that supports undergraduate research alongside other faculty. Employment in this position is contingent upon the successful completion of all required pre-employment background checks.
