John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. Led by President Karol V. CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION 

Reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Aid, The Financial Aid Advisor will coordinate financial aid procedure and activities and provide financial aid information to student, staff and faculty. 

The successful candidate will be required to carry out the following responsibilities: 

  • Provides direct student services and works collaboratively with other units in Enrollment Management to support registration, financial aid, testing and other related activities.
  • Counsel students, staff and faculty on academic registration, admissions, testing and financial aid.
  • Manages student information databases and resolves issues with student records and transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with college, Federal, and State financial aid regulations and policies.
  • Work collaboratively with other units in Enrollment Management/Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to support advisement, registration, counseling, and other related activities.
  • Creates and updates content for web pages, bulletins and other media to ensure effective communication to students and campus community.
  • May supervise clerical and/or part-time staff.
  • Respond to financial aid inquiries via email, telephone, and in-person in a timely fashion.
  • Must be available to work some evening and weekend hours.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required. 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years financial aid or related experience preferred.
  • A demonstrated commitment to providing quality student service in a diverse college is expected.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State Student Financial Aid regulations, programs, practices and procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft, CUNYfirst, and related Student Financial Services software (NSLDS) desirable.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Coordinates financial aid procedures and activities and provides financial aid information.

  • Schedules workshops, reviews applications, establishes pay cycles, disburses funds and resolves disbursement problems, and records awards, disbursements and returns.
  • Coordinates, verifies and resolves problems regarding the disbursement of scholarships and grants by verifying student eligibility, establishing pay cycles and reviewing pay-outs.
  • Reconciles accounting and disbursement schedules.
  • Provides data for financial aid and donor reports as needed.
  • Supports the College's enrollment management efforts by providing financial aid information to prospective students, their families and their high school counselors.
  • Serves as liaison between the college and direct loan providers.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

$49,960 - $57,517

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
