Job Description

The Department of Counseling & Human Services at Old Dominion University invites applicants for a non-tenure track Lecturer of Human Services position, located on the Norfolk, VA campus to begin Fall 2025. This is a 10-month annual appointment teaching on campus with a 4/4 teach load, as well as service commitments.

Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications

A Master’s in Human Services or a closely related field.

Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities
  1. Evidence of professional identity in the field of human services (i.e., articulation of what human services is, and education, teaching, work, or service in a human services context).
  2. 2-5 years of post-graduate experience in the helping professions (e.g., human services, social work, counseling, community development).
  3. Experience teaching undergraduate students in human services or a closely related field.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to diversity.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional identity and history of service in the helping fields to include membership, leadership, or service in professional organizations (e.g., NOHS, ACA, NAADAC etc.)
  • Credential in a helping profession (e.g., QMHP, HS- BCP, LPC, LCSW, CSAC, etc.)
