Summary

The Senior Coordinator, Environmental and Laboratory Safety within the Institutional Safety Training Program and Radiation Safety Program is responsible for ensuring that institutional safety training is compliant with all environmental, health and safety regulations through assisting with Learning Management System (LMS) safety training assignments appropriate to personnel who are working in labs, clinics and other areas where biological, chemical or radiological hazards are used or stored. This position supports tasks related to developing safety training in collaboration with Environmental and Laboratory Safety team members and other stakeholders, assigning safety training, tracking safety training completions, creating training reports, collaborating with other BCM departments and programs regarding required safety training. In addition, this position contributes to the Radiation Safety Program by assisting with Radiation Safety Committee amendments and agendas, radiation protocol updates and lab and clinic inspections and other duties as assigned.

Job Duties

Ensure institutional safety training is in compliance with regulations and guidelines pertaining to the use, handling, and disposal of hazardous biological, chemical and radiological agents.
• Monitors changes to regulations and guidelines.
• Makes updates to training courses as needed to maintain compliance with regulations and guidelines.

Ensures environmental, health and safety training compliance within BCM’s research and teaching laboratories and clinics, as well as safety training assigned to all BCM employees.
• Creates and update online Learning Management System (LMS) safety training courses.
• Transitions online training course to new formats, programs, and LMSs.
• Creates and assigns training curricula.
• Tracks training completions and generate summary reports.

Ensures Radiation Safety Committee protocols, amendments, agendas and surveys are completed in a timely fashion.
• Responds to requests for new Radiation Safety Committee protocols and amendments.
• Updates Radiation Safety Committee agendas as protocols are created, amended and closed.
• Prepares the quarterly Radiation Safety Committee Business Summary regarding protocol changes.
• Performs protocol-based radiation safety lab and clinic inspections as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in basic or applied science or a related field.
  • Current state-issued driver’s license.
