Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:
The O’More College of Architecture and Design, department of Interior Design at Belmont University is seeking applications for a fulltime faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 1, 2025.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaching undergraduate interior design courses with subject matter and scope aligned with the body of knowledge outlined in the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) standards.
- Preparing class content and educational experiences for teaching undergraduate Interior Design courses – with preference given to candidates capable of integrating current and advancing technology in the process and production of design.
- Academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly and/or creative activity, recruitment and retention efforts, and college and university service.
- Complete 24 workload hours, or equivalent, per academic year
- Advise and mentor students in research and other class-related projects.
- Engage in activities to support the mission and vision of Belmont University and the college in which you teach.
- Participate in departmental and university committee work.
- Engage in scholarly activity and professional development (commensurate with rank appointment)
- Advise students in course selection and degree completion.
- Participate in a local church and the community.
- Abide by all relevant university and/or department procedures and policies.
- Manage online grading system.
- Timely submission of book orders, if textbooks required.
- Maintain regular office hours.

Program Statement:
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Interior Design is a rigorous eight-semester, CIDA-accredited program focused on developing future leaders in our field. Engaged in design-specific learning from their first semester in the program to the last, our students learn essential communication skills, design technologies, critical and systems-thinking tools, and creative problem-solving techniques in collaborative settings. They learn to approach designing through an empathetic lens, considerate of the diverse users of the built environments to elevate the human experience within those spaces. We promote the profession, prepare for licensing and registration, and equip students to utilize evidence-based design approaches for more sustainable, equitable, and meaningful designs that have the capacity to transform.
The program boasts of award-winning students that compete regularly in national competitions and win, such as the prestigious Donghia Scholarship. The students are coveted among the design community and sought-after for internships and future employment opportunities. Alumni are well-positioned and active members of the Nashville and broader design realms.
The Interior Design program is situated within the O’More College of Architecture and Design (CAD), which is a creative community of architecture, fashion design, fashion merchandising, and interior design that serves its undergraduate students by providing professionally oriented, liberal arts-based education. The facilities of the College include extensive studios that feature industry-standard equipment, flexible classroom/seminar space, and a digital fabrications lab. The curricula of all programs benefit from the University’s Christ-centered general education core and supporting “Well Core” to develop the whole person. Students have access to extensive internship opportunities and study abroad programs. Preparing students for their chosen professions, CAD programs emphasize the values of sustainability in all its realms, equity, and service.

Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in Interior Design or closely related field
- Professional experience in teaching at a college-level and/or design in the field
- NCIDQ Certificate Holder (having passed all parts of the professional exam) or eligible for examination
- Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the field of study.
- Knowledge of subject matter and course content taught.
- Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
- Demonstrated capacity to engage in high quality scholarly activity.
- Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students.
- Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software.
- Ability to learn relevant sections of BannerWeb, Belmont University’s online integrated database system for student grading.
- Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
- Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University. Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated aptitude and experience in teaching at a college-level
- Track record of research/potential for scholarship in interior design or related field of study for tenure-track positions
Required Education Terminal degree in Interior Design or closely related field.
Required Experience 1-2 years of professional experience in teaching interior design courses at a college-level and/or professional design experience in the field.
