Job Description:
Summary:
This position assists the Assistant Athletic Director, Communications & Digital Media in publicizing American’s 16 intercollegiate athletic teams and in the writing, editing and publishing of all external athletic channels, in print and digital. This position works under general supervision.
Essential Functions:

- Writes and edits external athletic messaging in order to
provide accurate and relevant information to the public and the
media.
- Prepares and provides pre- and postgame information on AU’s
athletics website and relevant social media accounts.
- Serves as the primary media relations contact for Men’s
Basketball, Women’s Soccer, Men’s Soccer, and Men’s & Women’s
Outdoor Track & Field.
- Edits and maintains record books, produces game-by-game notes
package, writes feature previews, recaps and feature stories for
the AU website, maintains team web pages.
- Manages all digital platforms for designated teams, ensuring
comprehensive coverage of pregame, in-game, and post game
activities.
- Produces and edits team video highlights, organizes photos and
photo galleries, and keeps a consistent watch on trends in social
media to keep platforms updated and relevant.
- Manages event staff and compilation of statistics at assigned
events in order to provide accurate and relevant information to the
public and the media.
- Responsible for the supervision and training of interns and
part-time employees.
- Maintains general office order and organization in office to
maintain a smooth running office, and proper game-day media
relations/operations for the Athletic Department.
- Creates solutions and ideas to promote, brand, and market
programs via all available social media channels and traditional
media channels.
- Cultivates and manages media relationships, and develops
original story ideas.
- This position directly supervises 10-15 interns and work-study
students.

- $48,176-$77,083 annually.
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or a related
field.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience.
- Extensive experience in sports information and game statistics
programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to produce and edit video
content for web and social media.
- Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, and all
Microsoft Programs.
- Strong experience in social media, video, broadcast, and
photography.
- Strong writing and editing skills and publishing
knowledge.
- Fairly frequent traveling in-season, including travel with
men’s basketball team to all away-from-home events.
