The Counseling Center Staff Psychologist is an 11 month full-time position that provides mental health and wellness services for the student population at Syracuse University. Specifically, the staff psychologist is responsible for the provision of short-term individual therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, drop-in services, consultation, supervision of graduate student trainees, educational/preventative outreach programming, and participation in the Center’s on-call rotation.

As part of the Barnes Center, counseling is an integrated service with colleagues in health, recreation, and health promotion. Counseling staff take a holistic approach to supporting students and are expected to be active members of the university community, represent counseling services on a variety of committees, and collaborate with colleagues across the university to promote student well-being and success. Staff psychologists must demonstrate high levels of cultural competency, be well versed at working with students from a variety of traditionally underserved and/or underrepresented backgrounds, and demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, social justice work. All staff psychologists lead one or more therapy groups. Qualifications
Ph.D. or Psy.D in counseling, clinical, or school psychology. Must be licensed in the state of NY within one year of beginning employment. Job Specific Qualifications
While we are looking for generalists, preference will be given to those candidates with a strong background in providing services within a social justice framework and a demonstrated history of working with students from marginalized identity groups.

Preference will also be given to candidates with a strong background in group therapy, the provision of eating disorder related treatment, and/or background in the provision of trauma related care .

Experience with crisis intervention and the ability to conduct risk assessments and manage potentially high risk clients required.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

Excellent time management skills.

Ability to work collaboratively and creatively in developing outreach education programming.

Experience working with college students preferred but not required Responsibilities
Provide short-term individual and group therapy, diagnostic assessment and triage, crisis intervention, outreach, consultation and after-hours on-call services.
