Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor of Arabic

The Department of Comparative Literature at Penn State (University Park) invites applications for a full-time Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor position in Arabic to begin in Fall 2025 (with flexibility).

Responsibilities include teaching introductory, intermediate, and advanced undergraduate courses in Modern Standard Arabic and Egyptian Dialect (three courses per semester), as assigned, along with supporting duties on behalf of the Arabic program, which includes an undergraduate minor.

Requirements include native or near-native fluency in English and Arabic, a Master's degree or its equivalent in Arabic or a related field (Ph.D. preferred) by the appointment date, and relevant teaching experience. Candidates who have experience with communicative and standards-based methodologies, program-building experience such as supervision or curriculum development, or are open to the possibility of teaching in the summer based on program needs will be given special consideration and should highlight these qualifications/availability in their application materials.

Rank is determined by education and qualifications. This is a non-tenure-line, term appointment with possibility of renewal. Salary is commensurate with qualifications.

Interested candidates must submit an online application and must upload the following application materials: a cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy, and a list of three references with contact information.

System limitations allow for a total of 5 documents (5mb per document) as part of your application. Please combine materials to meet the 5-document limit. Any questions or concerns with the online application can be directed to Danielle Austin at dna5019@psu.edu.

In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
