ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:

Operational

Provides daily support, direction, and guidance to customers and team members (hourly and student) to ensure compliance with all standards of operation. Ensures adequate coverage per shift. Addressing staffing anomalies in an efficient and consistent manner. Gathers team prior to service to inform, prepare, and ensure readiness to meet and exceed guest expectations, documentation and communicate any service concerns at the conclusion of service period. Delegate tasks and responsibilities, ensuring that work is distributed effectively. Ensures and operational checklists and necessary record keeping are completed in a timely and accurate manner. Ensures that service area are maintained in a clean & organized manner and are safe and secure. Addresses elements that may compromise guest sensory experience.

Shift support

Foster a supportive and inclusive work environment, encouraging teamwork, engagement, and accountability through actions and communications. Ensures fair and consistent enforcement of operational policies and procedures throughout shifts. Ensures adequate coverage per shift. Addressing staffing anomalies in a responsible manner. Support initial and ongoing training for the team, initiates OPUS training plan, provides clear communication and feedback. Delegate tasks and responsibilities, ensuring that work is distributed effectively. Participate in the hiring and onboarding process. Evaluate employee performance and provide guidance for growth and improvement.

Actively engages in self-development and stays abreast of emerging trends. Implement effective workforce communication strategies. Responsibilities include recruiting, on-boarding, training, evaluating, and developing the team to ensure optimal performance. Identifies and addresses barriers to individual team members' success. Works collaboratively with others to ensure consistent enforcement of policies and procedures. Regularly checks in with the whole team and individual members. Establish goals, initiates development plans, performs thorough annual and mid-year reviews of staff. Empowers team members to take advantage of training opportunities. Proposes service centric OPUS training

Customer Service

Provide exceptional customer service by anticipating needs, promptly addressing inquiries, concerns, and issues. Is present in the floor during peak periods, to support the customer experience. Address product outages with a sense of urgency. Plans and executes special events and programing that actively contribute to enhancing the customer experience. Support student collaboration initiatives to tailor offerings to the distinctive needs of an esteemed Art and Design School.

Fiscal responsibility/Product management

Adhere to all dining-specific purchasing/receiving/inventory management policies and procedures. Assist in managing PAR stock inventory levels, ensuring stock availability, timely purchasing, and communicating any vendor challenges. Contribute to detailed inventory, receiving and reconciliation processes, ensuring accuracy and timely updates. Assist in ensuring merchandise quality through inspections and contribute to setting competitive pricing strategies based on market analysis. Assist with benchmarking of product mix, pricing and brand placement. Contribute to market research and identify opportunities for product expansion. Ensures DEA's are abiding by established POS procedures, PCI compliance and closing procedures.

Promotion & Presentation

Assist in managing the day-to-day marketing activities of the program through positive customer interaction, attending campus events, documenting events and programs for use in social media. Work with students, student groups, faculty and staff to enhance the image and perception of the program through storytelling, information-sharing, issue resolution, and other communications efforts. Create appealing retail displays that drive sales, and enhance the customer experience. Ensure that all signage is accurate and the operation is kept neat and tidy.

Health & Safety:

Ensures staff comply with all RI DOH health and safety codes, in addition to department cleaning, equipment maintenance and opening/closing checklists. Limits allergen cross-contact in daily production by ensuring predetermined utensils, storage vessels and serving pans are used during scheduled shifts. Ensures daily physical menus are accurate and list applicable allergens. Participates in allergy awareness training. Responsible for cooling and holding temperatures in alignments with RIDOH standards and associated temperature logs and documentation. Maintains cleanliness of venue to include all preparation and serving areas, display cases and retail coolers with strict attention to sanitation procedures. Knows, understands and communicates emergency procedures for assigned area. Ensures staff have and are using all required protective safety items.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • An Associate's preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience, with a minimum of 3 years of hospitality experience and at least 1 year of managerial experience, showing success in leading teams.

  • Rhode Island Food Safety Manager certification or obtain it within 90 days.

PREFERRED:
  • Effectively communicates interpersonally or in written, verbal, nonverbal and audibly.

  • Commitment to the guest experience and the proven ability model behaviors that regularly exceeds expectations and instills a service work ethic in subordinate staff.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways, as well as demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in a professional environment.

  • Strong knowledge of computers and experience with G/Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Able to learn and utilize CBORD access software, Simphony, Grub Hub, catertrax as well as departmental communications platforms such as email, and slack

  • Provide outstanding customer service, including the ability to remain professional and respectful under pressure when dealing with difficult situations, to team and customers.

  • Working knowledge of proper sanitation practices and health codes.

  • Ability to work a flex schedule that will include days, evenings, and weekends.

  • Strong planning, time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Requires broad range of office and technical skills, including administering data, generating reports, managing information/files, and analyzing results.

Work Schedule

Full-time, 35 hours per week. Five days per week, hours vary. Coverage is seven days per week (two days off) while school is in session and can include daytime, evening, and weekend hours.

All dining and catering staff are considered essential personnel to the school and are therefore required to attend work even when the school is closed.
