Essential Functions
The School of the Arts at the University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Ceramics. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong professional record, teaching experience at the university level, and a commitment to teaching undergraduates from diverse backgrounds. This position starts on August 18, 2025.
The primary role of the position is to develop, update, and teach the Ceramics curriculum within UNO’s BASA and BFA Three-Dimensional Art concentration. Innovative pedagogies are welcome and encouraged. Maintenance of Ceramics studio and equipment, in conjunction with unit Studio Lab Manager is expected. An ability to contribute more broadly to the Three-Dimensional Art (Book Arts, Ceramics, Sculpture) and/or Foundations coursework is highly desirable. Additional opportunities for teaching courses and student mentoring, including research/creative activity and internships, will be available as determined by the program needs. Evidence of sustained studio practice is expected. This position also includes participation in service both on campus, in the city of Omaha, and the wider field.
The person in this position will also participate fully in the unit (Art & Art History) and will be given service assignments. Candidates must hold a MFA in ceramics or a related area and have teaching experience at the university level. Evidence of ongoing professional development via exhibitions, publications, awards, and more is also mandatory. Start date for this position is August 2025.
The School of the Arts is one of three schools within the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media at the vibrant, metropolitan University of Nebraska at Omaha ( UNO ). The faculty members in Art & Art History are nationally recognized scholars and artists and work collaboratively to create a dynamic program and experience for students. Art & Art History is a NASAD accredited program that offers a BA and BFA in Studio Art and a BA in Art History. Studio Art students can also pursue a K-12 certification. There are over 300 majors in the degree programs and approximately 100 minors. Supplementing the School’s annual professional development funds, several divisions/offices, including the Center for Faculty Excellence, Division of Innovation and Learning -Centric Initiatives, and ORCA provide resources and funding for initiatives in teaching, digital learning, and research/creative activity.

Additional Duties
Duties include teaching and mentoring undergraduate students; contributing to the diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts of UNO ; and providing a full-time presence in the Sculpture/Ceramics Building for the safety of all.
Required Qualifications
MFA or equivalent terminal degree in a Studio Arts or related applicable discipline. University level teaching experience. Evidence of ongoing professional engagement.
