The American University in Vietnam invites applications for the position of Dean of Computer Science and Engineering. This role provides visionary leadership and oversight to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, fostering a culture of academic excellence, innovation, and inclusivity in teaching, research, and service. The Dean will shape the future of the department, aligning it with the university's mission to deliver a holistic, student-centered education. The successful candidate will have a passion for liberal arts education, a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, and the strategic vision to guide the department’s growth and relevance in an ever-evolving field.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Vision:
Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Develop and implement a vision that aligns the department’s goals with the university's mission and strategic priorities. Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and supportive environment that promotes academic excellence, diversity, and innovation.
Academic & Program Development:
Oversee the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of undergraduate programs in computer science. Ensure academic programs remain current, responsive to trends, and reflective of the university’s liberal arts mission. Encourage and support interdisciplinary collaboration between computer science and engineering with other departments within the university.
Faculty Development:
Recruit, mentor, and retain highly qualified faculty. Foster faculty development through support of research, teaching innovation, and professional growth. Evaluate faculty performance and provide constructive feedback.
Student Success:
Enhance the student experience by promoting engagement, retention, and success within the computer science and engineering department. Champion student-centered teaching and experiential learning opportunities, such as internships, undergraduate research, and community partnerships.
Resource Management:
Oversee department budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources to meet academic and operational needs. Advocate for the department in university-wide decision-making, resource planning, and strategic initiatives.
Partnerships & Community Engagement:
Develop relationships with industry, alumni, and community partners to create internship, research, and employment opportunities for students. Promote the department’s contributions to the broader university and local community.
Qualifications:
A terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field. A distinguished record of teaching, research, and service appropriate for a senior faculty appointment. Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic setting, preferably at the departmental or college level.
- Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the department and university.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills.
Ability to advocate for the value of a liberal arts education and integrate computer science into a broader interdisciplinary context. Experience with curriculum development, program accreditation, and/or faculty development is highly desirable.
