Position Summary
The Hugh Hodgson School of Music ( HHSOM ) at the University of Georgia ( UGA ) announces a tenure-track, assistant professor of voice search seeking a colleague to join a vibrant voice area with a strong national and international reputation. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are encouraged to apply. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, tenure track appointment. Targeted start date: August 1, 2025.
- Serve as an artist-teacher of voice, maintaining an active performance and research agenda that continues to expand the reputation for excellence of the program.
- Teach applied voice lessons to students from first-year undergraduate through doctoral levels and lead weekly studio performance classes.
- Instruct courses in related areas of expertise, which may include operatic and/or vocal literature, lyric diction, vocal pedagogy, or other courses as they relate to the candidate’s expertise.
- Participate in activities related to the academic mission of the university and the voice area, including service on committees, student mentoring, and recruiting activities across the state and beyond.
- Other duties as assigned.

- A current curriculum vitae outlining their academic qualifications and professional experience.
- A cover letter (maximum of 3 pages) which highlights information regarding the applicant’s teaching philosophy, and objectives for teaching within an environment which serves a community of students with a wide variety of backgrounds and interests.
- Links to an online portfolio/website highlighting artistic
work, which must include:
- At least 3 stylistically varied live recordings from performances in the past 3 years.
- 2 teaching videos, no longer than 20-minutes each, demonstrating work with 2 students (preferably one treble voice and one tenor/bass). Videos may be edited for length.
- Unofficial transcripts for highest degree earned.
- The names and contact information for a minimum of 3 references. Letters of reference will be requested later in the search process.

The Voice Area ( https://music.uga.edu/voice ) at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music is a creative community that fosters a supportive environment for vocalists to explore a wide range of musical interests and styles in music, as well as interdisciplinary collaborations outside of music. The area supports students in UGA’s undergraduate and graduate voice degree programs which include performance, music education, music therapy, music history, music composition, and the Musical Theatre Certificate Program. A terminal degree in voice (such as a Doctor of Musical Arts) earned by time of appointment.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates without a terminal degree must document exceptional accomplishments and professional performance experience and must be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Evidence of accomplishments of teaching experience in voice, preferably a minimum of two years of experience at the collegiate level. Preferred candidates will possess a holistic view of vocal pedagogy which encompasses both Western Classical singing and Music Theatre/ CCM and non-Western styles of singing.
- Evidence of accomplishments in performance, with evidence of an established or emerging national profile; minimum of three years of professional experience.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Evidence of ability to work collaboratively and effectively with students and faculty.
- Demonstrated knowledge of a wide array of solo vocal literature for all voice types at different levels of academic study.
- Ability and desire to contribute to a dynamic, holistic music program that prepares students for a music career in the 21st century, including initiating and leading innovative community engagement projects in a region known for its music and arts culture.
