Position Summary

The Associate University Librarian ( AUL ) is a member of the senior leadership team at the University of Georgia Libraries. The position is responsible to the University Librarian and Associate Provost for leading and advising on matters relating to the development and implementation of the mission, goals, and broad policy directions for the University of Georgia Libraries. The AUL advances high priority initiatives with an initial emphasis on digital/data strategy and has direct oversight of several library units and departments, including cataloging, collaborative digitization (Digital Library of Georgia), maps and government information, digital humanities, research data management, and digital preservation. As Associate University Librarian, this position works closely with the University Librarian, the administrative team (including heads of Finance, Human Resources, and IT), and department heads in providing leadership in strategic planning, administration and resource allocation. The AUL represents the University Librarian in meetings and may assume overall responsibility for the Libraries in the absence of the University Librarian.

Five or more years of significant and progressively responsible management and leadership experience in an academic library.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Serves in a senior administrative capacity for the UGA Libraries, working under the University Librarian and with the administrative team (Finance, HR, IT) and department heads to lead library-wide planning, policy making, and the development and evaluation of services.

Provides leadership with regard to strategic planning, budget development, policy development, communication strategy, and assessment in support of the UGA Libraries’ mission.

May assume overall responsibility for the Libraries in the absence of the University Librarian.

Liaises, collaborates, and coordinates with various stakeholders on and off campus on behalf of the University Librarian to develop and grow services, address issues, and support the Libraries as the heart of UGA’s scholarly community.

Advances strategic priorities, including digital scholarship and research data management.

Promotes and sustains a positive, equitable, diverse, and ethical workplace culture where the contributions and development of all people are valued.

Has direct oversight of specific Libraries departments and units, with direct supervision of approximately 6 department heads and other leaders and indirect supervision of 40-50 faculty and staff. These areas include Cataloging, the Digital Library of Georgia, the Map and Government Information Library, Digital Humanities, Research Data Management, and Digital Stewardship.
