Position Title
Senior Accountant
Overview
Assist with month-end closings, the annual audit process, annual tax return process, preparing reconciliations of general ledger accounts, and in maintaining the integrity of the College’s general ledger and financial reports.
Essential Duties:
- Prepare and record extensive volume of account journal entries. Research, respond to, and resolve general ledger account inquiries from management, auditors, and other departments. (20%)
- Reconcile and balance general ledger and subsidiary accounts. Perform monthly analysis of various general ledger accounts to ensure that account balances are recorded properly, making corrections on a timely basis. (20%)
- Perform computer control procedures to verify accuracy of departmental feeds into the general ledger. Identify discrepancies and troubleshoot to resolve problems. Maintain spreadsheets associated with departmental feeds. (20%)
- Compile information and prepare schedules for the year-end audits. Assist with the preparation of year-end workpapers, financial statements, and footnotes. (10%)
- Compile information and assist in the preparation of the tax return workpapers. (10%)
- Assist with the preparation of external regulatory reporting requirements, including 1099’s, 1099K’s, and 1042’s. (5%)
- Participate in testing system upgrades. (5%)
- Crosstrain and provide backup support for other members of the accounting team. (5%)
- Participate in special projects. (5%)
- Perform all other duties as may be required.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited institution required
- Five to seven years of experience in accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of financial accounting systems and other technical accounting skills
- Good organizational and communication skills with an emphasis on accuracy
