Position Title: Post Doctoral Fellow - Department of Physics and Astronomy

Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Clemson University invites applications for one Postdoctoral fellow position in Gamma-ray Astrophysics.

The successful candidate will work under the mentorship of Dr. Ajello on the analysis and interpretation of data provided by the Fermi space mission. Dr. Ajello’s research focuses on the study of active galactic nuclei, the extragalactic background light, and the extragalactic gamma-ray background. The candidate will work for 50% of the time on the implementation of an automated data analysis pipeline (using available large-language models) to analyze data from the Large Area Telescope on board of Fermi. Research experience in the above or related fields, and previous experience with writing and using analysis pipelines are considered assets.

The anticipated start is August 2025. The appointment will be for one year with options for yearly renewal for up to three years based on performance and funding availability.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics or Astronomy with a background in high-energy astrophysics.
